Alongside the more traditional activities of tug-of-war, swimming and canoeing, children at the five-day camp in Somerset will learn about rational scepticism, moral philosophy, ethics and evolution.
Richard "God Delusion" Dawkins' foundation has helped fund an atheist/sceptic summer camp that teaches 8-17 year olds how to think critically about the world:

Alongside the more traditional activities of tug-of-war, swimming and canoeing, children at the five-day camp in Somerset will learn about rational scepticism, moral philosophy, ethics and evolution.Dawkins funds atheist summer camp (via Wonderland)Camp-goers aged eight to 17 will also be taught how to disprove phenomena such as crop circles and telepathy. In the Invisible Unicorn Challenge, any child who can prove that unicorns do not exist will win a £10 note - which features an image of Charles Darwin, the father of evolutionary theory - signed by Dawkins, Britain's most prominent atheist.

... Religion a superstition? What is a 'sition' by the way. I know what super is.....get that part.....but stition? Is that a bad word? I think about that scene from Passion of the Christ...when Jesus is looking out at the masses after Pontious Pilots classic corporate decision....and this monster-looking thing is out there just loving the violence....and I realize........ya know........people were probably pretty strange and wild, and or afraid of living in the wild back then...crazy wild humans on the loose...stealing, hiding, raping, screwing, hurting, cave-living nothing to lose animals ( at least a few people..)actual creatures!!! errrr,...no morals or ethics....what are those to a monster..or are there no such things as monsters either? .a violent and spiritually retarded and under-nurtured life-form shun from anything resembling human or humanitarian...I feel like there were a lot of things to be afraid of in those bizarre times...and I fully understand religion.I'd want to believe in something more devine for sure if those were the ghastly conditions of days such as pictorialized by the art of the church. Or am I tempted to be wild? Does anyone remember that quick shot of those people enjoying the crucifiction! Its like...........do we really think that people had the same comfortable mind-frame back then as we do now...living against all odds..........in that part of the world.....no democracy like America....get real....they had to have something.. I mean....come on. NO. THERES NO GOD...ERRRRR. ERRRRRR. WE ARE JUST SOMETHING ELSE>>>.....ERRRRR >>>EERRRRRR...NO GOD>>>...........NO BRILLIANT BEING...>>>EERRRRRRR.....ONLY NO GOD THINGS>>...>>ERRR>> Certainly the supreme power was not the Roman Empire for it certainly did not actually create Israel. Simply because it dominated the otherwise docile area... do you think that those same monsters don't live today under aggressively molded exteriors as a perverse force of nature...an afterlife of sorts...........spirits.....the things that live beyond the 3 seconds of the big bang through human magic and mishap, carnage and sympathy. We are all everything together, not only some things and not others. HELLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. I will never take anything away from a surviving spirit that transcends generations that still has a "religion" that helps them maintain their own moral and ethical balance throughout their brilliance. And...life is kinda depressing when there is no acknowledgment of a grand bright spirit of wonder. I don't know....just eats me up. Never down another view point. Compliment it and share the space. Who could dare say which is right. It all is simply because it exists to be interpreted. Touchy subjects at dinner time around Chicagoland's Roman Catholic community. I'm guessing this person does not get invited to a lot of Polkas and Irish Parades! How does he enjoy himself. Religion is about tradition....without things like electricity or technology.....peace......warmth....strength........smiles and togetherness.......understanding and amazement. If you share that with someone elses wife without religion, you will likely get killed by the woman's husband. Another perk of religion and ceremony. Respect. Oh I don't know.....this topic just gets so big. Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.................. |
